I found a macbook on craigslist today for $450. I've contacted the poster and plan on meeting up with him tomorrow. The screen is busted. I see screens on ebay for around $100 buy it now.

Heres the specs he posted

2.00 Ghz Intel Core Duo Processor
80gig HD
1GB DDR2 ram
Mac OSX 10.5.5(Leopard)
Also has Superdrive(DVD and CD burner)
I also have the original box and all manuels and plugs

I've replaced a few laptop screens before and don't think that'll be an issue. My question for you all is; for $550 and a hour of work do you think that this is a good deal for this notebook?

If you have a display (preferably flat panel), you may want to take it with you to make sure the MacBook really works. You know, it's possible that more than the display is broken. It would probably make you feel better knowing that beyond the broken display is a running MacBook.

I think the price is fair considering, but there are risks...

Good luck with it.

He says that he is currently using it with an external monitor and I'll be able to check it with that.

Picked it up tonight. It looks pretty good with the exception of a busted screen. You can actually see most of the desktop, so I know it works. It has a good bit of software installed already (office 08, ilife, PScs3, Illcs3) which was happy to find. I was able to get him to knock the price down to $400.

I ordered a new lcd off ebay for $100 shipped. So fingers crossed in a week or so I'll have a working $500 macbook.
