Macbook case to protect against crushing?

I'm going to be backpacking around the world for about a year and need to bring my macbook so that I can continue to work online.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep my notebook safe from damage while it's being carried around in the backpack? Any cases that are small and light but will protect it from being crushed or banged up? It'd be great if it also protected against water and moisture.

Any suggestions on either a backpack and / or daypack that might be better for someone carrying their life (including their beloved macbook) on their back?

A quick Google for "MacBook hard case" brings up a range of possible solutions. Pelican provide a range of cases here http://pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1080 although they may be a little on the heavy side!
