This is a complicated one. I've got a 2008 MacBook. It was working perfectly well until I smashed the screen the other day. This has happened once before so I knew with an adaptor I'd be able to still use it on my tv via a HDMI cable and adaptor that I use frequently when streaming. But the only thing is when I start it up without the HDMI doesn't make the start up sound anymore and after I wait, for what should be enough time to start up things like the brightness and sound still don't work. Furthermore if I try to put it into clamshell mode my tv isn't picking it up and just states no signal. The only possible way I can get it to come onto my tv is by plugging in a keyboard, starting it up and quickly closing the lid.
When I do this it seems to do the trick, but it won't go past the apple logo with the loading symbol (not the colour spiral).

Has anyone came across this issue before?
