Macbook contact list won't sync

I've updated the macOS to Catlina and my contact list will not sync to my phone. My iMessages will show the contacts phone number and not people's names. I'm using the same Apple ID and I've unchecked the contact sync option and rechecked it. Any suggestions on how to resolve?

Check that on your Mac in Preferences - iCloud that contacts is checked on

Also on your iPhone that in settings iCloud that it is enabled there as well.

Try to add a dummy contact and see if it forces a sync as sometimes it can be a little slow to sync.
