I recently bought a Seagate 500 GB hard drive from Newegg for my 2.0 GHz late 2007 MacBook. Last night I installed it and started from my startup discs. However, when the computer looks for a place to install, the drive does not show up.

Is my computer able to recognize this drive, or do you think the drive is faulty? Or is it something simple that I am overlooking here?

You must partition your hard drive in the Disk Utility menu item from the OS X Installer.

Once you do that, the disk will show on the install options :)

proper format

Also! be sure to format the drive as Mac OS Journaled so that OS X can be installed on it properly; that's why the OS can't see the drive, because its probably formatted NTFS or FAT-32

Hope this helps!
