Macbook doesnt recognize any Firewire device

Hello,

I bought a Macbook a few months ago but never had to use the firewire port until now. I bought an external HD and an external DVD burner. Both devices are recognized if I use the USB port, but when I use the Firewire port, it doesn't mount. In fact, absolutly nothing happens when I connect the wire between the laptop and the device.

Unfortunatly my 90 days of phone service warranty is finished otherwise I would have called them.


I reformated the HD on my macbook and reinstalled Mac OS but I still have the same problem.


Any ideas??
