hi. just any help appreciated here. i spilled a glass of beer on the macbook yesterday. at the beginning it wasn't reacting and i could switch it off. i left if for the night and now seems in hangover and it doesn't switch on at all. the battery led indicator works but i don't have other reactions.
is a late allumium 2008.
if you can tell me where to start troubleshooting would be a huge help .

You can start by opening it up and inspecting the damage. If you'd turned it off immediately and disconnected the battery then you could've dried it out and avoided damage. Now it's likely going to require some soldering.

It’s quite ok to really like your Macbook, but you shouldn’t really buy it a beer. It’s not good for it.

Agreed with above, you’re not going to know anything until you physically inspect the components inside. They may still be beer soaked at this point. The problem is that beer is corrosive and conductive, making it easy to short out contacts and corrode them. I would first remove the battery and all power. I wouldn’t waste my time taking it anywhere, I would immediate try to remove the hard drive if you need anything off of it. Hopefully you’re backed up. Once you’ve removed the drive, and disconnected or removed the battery (can’t remember which on the 2008) start to disassemble the machine. You don’t mention how much beer it was, but the fact that it’s not responsive is a bad sign.

of course i deleted the backup 2 days ago. it's a classic,
it was 1/4 of a small glass.
Ok i will remove hard drives and proceed opening and inspecting. i bet i will see the beer and i will remove it. hopefully it will start again after the rice and the cleaning. less hopefully i will look for signs of shorts and if i'm lucky i will find it. othewise i will need to measure to find where is the shorts but without schematics or similar i will be hard i think.
any idea about where the short could be located if this would exist?
Sounds like a nice mission if this wouldn't be my glorious old friend

Rice will not work and may well cause even more problems. Use a proper desiccant.

There’s no way to tell without inspecting the components. Any could have been affected, and it depends where the beer decided to go. You should be able to see physical signs of damage when you look closely. If I were you, I’d start looking for logic boards and perhaps new machines because if it shorted out it’s going to be a bear to track down the problem and repair. Normally folks use rice or real desiccants when they don’t open the machine. You’re going to open the machine, so once you remove the logic board you can inspect it and clean it —carefully— with rubbing alcohol on the affected section.

my son spilled pepsi soda on his 2010 MBP and it won't turn on, Ive removed the logic board and found a damaged Lvds connector that requires hot air soldering to replace it, bought a used (tested) logic board off eBay for $60 and its working great till today.

Probably time to start shopping for a replacement... and keep the beer away with the new one!

I’ve lost two MacBook Pro’s to spilled drinks in the last fifteen years. They are very, very sensitive to spills - in both cases it was more economical to buy a new laptop. The second was just a few drops of coffee that came in through a USB port and trashed the logic board.

after the second loss, I became paranoid and i now either elevate my laptop off the desk or put my drink a long, long way away from it.
a 12-year old laptop with a beer inside? I’d be very surprised if the best course of action were not a new machine. Sorryfor your loss.

so. i've not opened it yet but i get to the booting apple logo. both the ssd and hhd inside are safe and working. the loading stops at 50% before the screen turns black and it shuts down.
any idea?
will proceed with back up and operate. i think the keyboard can create the issue!
