New MacBooks next Tuesday? :)

What do you reckon? Processor bump? Graphics card?

Apple had already given me a tracking number, that said my package would be delivered today. It said, "Out for delivery." I was getting all excited. Then I got this email, and noticed they only shipped my Applecare Kit and my Incase sleeve. WEAK... oh man. Now I have to wait 2 weeks? WTF???

same thing for me

I placed an order for a new Macbook on Saturday afternoon and since I custom ordered, it was given the processing time of 1 to 3 business days and that it should ship between January 30 and February 1. I got notice this morning that my order will not be available until early next week.

I'm glad to know that I am not the only one. What bothers me is that I needed this computer as soon as possible.

Did they happen to include the inventory number for the MB in this communication? Does it match the current rev?
current rev are MA699LL/A, MA700LL/A, and MA701LL/A

This is all I have...

no inventory number

I didn't get an inventory number with any of the email notices I have received from Apple.

If you go to the Applestore website, it still says the Macbooks ship in 24hours, 2-4 if customized...

They'd better not. I haven't had mine a week yet!

No really. Updates are always cool to see.

So the only CTO is the extra GB of RAM?

That doesn't seem like much reason for a delay to me. Hmmm...

Sorry to disappoint but any Macbook or Macbook Pro that doesn't conform to the standard spec always takes 3-4 days extra especially if you want extra RAM as the laptop has to be taken out of its box and fitted with the extra RAM at the factory before they ship it.

They are not normally a stock option.

Even if you order a MacBook Pro with a glossy screen there is sometimes a delay as again this is seen as a special order but glossy screens are a stock option so if apple has them in stock at the distribution centre they go out within 24 hours.

This is not so for a RAM upgrade.

I don't know why you think apple would delay your order if they were rleasing a new spec? It's in their business interest to clear stock. They will only ship new spec products if they are ordered on the day of or after the anouncement. You have ordered a particular spec and unless they don't have it or won't be getting it in stock then that's what you get!

Best

J

Such bumps in shipping date have coincided with new announcements in the past. What will happen is, they'll stop manufacturing the older model a couple of weeks before announcing a new model and clear out the current stock, then they'll delay any new orders they can't fill.

Still, it doesn't always mean new specs. It might be that they are short of a CTO component.

I can't see it. What would the upgrade be? There's no new integrated chipset, no merom chips that weren't available when the current MB was released, and they just got HD and RAM bumps last time around. There's just nothing to upgrade given the components apple has to work with right now. Not to mention that the macbook is the most recently updated mac...

Maybe it'll come 802.11n enabled by default.

10-14 day delay? over memory upgrades?

I haven't a clue why Apple has delayed the shipping of my new MacBook. But I find it odd that what was originally a 1 to 3 day preparation time and 4 to 7 day shipping time has shifted to 10-14 day prep time and 13-16 day shipping time. Just for memory? If it is, one would hope that Apple would be on top of this sort of easy upgrade and have such supplies available.

Regardless, I just want my new MacBook.

No need to get excited. NO NEW updates on Macbook's for at least 4-5 months. CTO delays are customary.

macbooks were updated in mid-november, no? not even three months and another update? could be, but i doubt it.

Actually there is a new merom chip. Granted its 2.4 and 2.2, which is higher than the MacBook pros, and they are Socket P, so they wouldnt fit in the current chipset..... but...

Now I'll give you something to lose sleep over

You better hope they don't revise the machine so that the Incase sleeve is no longer useful for that model. That could be an interesting situation if the timing doesn't work out right.

If the new machine arrives beyond the return period for the sleeve, then you could have trouble if a revised machine is no-longer compatible with the sleeve.

So, now that I've ruined your day, have fun

Hopefully it will be a minor revision for you, or they are just running low on stock.

Looks like it was just a delay...

i'm still waiting...

I haven't heard anything further from Apple. I probably won't see mine ship until Monday or Tuesday at the earliest.
