Just had my Macbook DVD drive replaced with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E. Warranty work. I now open the top case and hear a "start up" noise coming from the DVD drive area. Am i correct to assume its just a noisy drive? It appears to work properly.

Define "start up noise"
any time a notebook comes out of sleep or starts up it checks the optical drive for any media which makes a fairly quick audible niose. if this is what your talking about that's normal.
if you mean like the start up bong than i have no idea what's making that noise.

They should make a noise. Maybe the old didn't because it needed to be replaced?
