Macbook Early 2011 Screen issue

Hey.

I have a early 2011 13" i5 macbook pro that has gone bonkers. It started occasionally doing a defragmented screen and then shutting down. The defragmented screen doesn't seem to bear any resemblence to what was being displayed previously. Now it is doing it all the time, even when booting up so that it is completely unuseable.

I'm wondering if anyone has any pointers on where to start looking for the problem / diagnoses

Thanks in advance

By ribbon cable do you mean the display cable? I did try connecting it to an external monitor, which does the same thing. I presume that would rule out the display cable

Looks like an internal graphics failure.
Time to start shopping for a replacement.

When you GET the replacement, you might consider:
- open the back
- remove the internal drive
- put it into an external 2.5" USB3 enclosure
- access your old data that way (using "setup assistant", for example)...

Yeah it would rule it out. Since you have the 2011 13" I wouldn't have assumed a GPU issue as yours is on the CPU.

This would be the way to address this issue since putting any more money into this device could just be a money pit.
