hi folks,

beforehand i'd like to apologize if i haven't searched the forum thoroughly enough to find a topic discussing my issue. i didn't found anything helpfull (if you do please link it for me), so here it goes:

recently i bough a LaCie USB powered hard drive (Lacie Rikiki Black 500GB - Externe 2.5'), got it partitioned into two parts, a 300gb MACOS Extended Journaled formatted partition and a 165gb fat32 partition.

I use it on my MacBook (2 GHz intel Core 2 Duo, with OSX 10.5.8)

Now whenever i close my macbook, everything goes to sleep as supposed to, but when i open it again i get the Improper Device Removal error box and i see finder re-mounting my partitions.

I also use a much older LaCie extern FireWire HD of 120 GB with external power supply, which never showed this problem (it does goes to sleep with a beep, but doesn't eject).

so the question is, how to solve this?

* typing this thread it comes to mind that the HD needs power and gets it from the MacBook's USB, and probably whenever i close the Macbook it shuts down the USB ports powersupply causing the HD to abruptly dismount.

and while typing this message i sort of solve the problem by connecting the HD on my USB Hub which has its own poweradapter to feed the HD. still less convenient as i hoped my new LaCie would be

and also, my iPod does charge its battery whenever the MacBook is asleep, so why not my LaCie ?

in the end, the question remains, is it possible to keep my external USB powered HD mounted when my MacBook goes to sleep?

thank you, and please excuse my long text to explain it all, hope all info is presented.
