So I got the MacBook last week, and here's what I've found so far. Sorry if this is felt to be piling on in any way, I just want to share my experience with what has been a fairly controversial computer that many are skeptical about. And certainly this may change as I use it over time, but I feel like I've gotten a pretty solid feel for my usage patterns in the time I've had it.

My usage for the MacBook basically revolves around browsing the web, messaging with friends through Messages, checking and composing email, and the usual minor photo editing in Photos and managing contacts and calendar. Apart from that, I write a lot and will find myself in a game of Diablo 3 now and then. So, what do I think?

This laptop is terrific and amazing to use. The screen makes using the screen a pleasure to the eyes - eyes that usually get tired with computer screens of lesser quality. Looking like the printed page, websites look great, and my documents are easy to revise.

But Diablo 3? That has to be run at lower res and at medium settings for the frame rates to stay high. That said, I'm still quite happy with how it performs and how the game looks, given that it's not, and has never been advertised as, a gaming laptop.

My typical use of it involves just typing on it on my lap or next to me on the couch, or sometimes on a table, exactly as it is. The keyboard is really terrific for typing, though it takes a second to get used to how responsive the keyboard is to a keypress and it's really easy to get used to, at least for me, but that mileage will vary. I will plug it in often, especially if it's getting low on battery or if I want to play Diablo 3 on it. It is a habit I've gotten into, as I keep my iPhone plugged in throughout the day. I try to keep the cycles low because when I'm away from power I'm away from power for a long while (camping, on vacations, etc.) and I want to keep the battery as fresh as I can.

I have the Digital AV Adapter for when I need to keep the iPhone plugged into the same outlet as the MacBook for power (cafes, etc), or when I want to push the video to a connected HDMI output (watch video on a TV, do a presentation, etc). I've had no problems with that adapter and though some can legitimately complain about the price, it's so far been worth it.

Any questions or comments, let me know. I will try to answer questions best I can, and I may revise my post above to clarify any confusion or for things I simply got wrong (it happens).

Take care, and have a great day / week!
