Macbook - Extended Desktop has stopped working

Hi There, up until this morning, I've used extended desktop on my macbook and external BENQ monitor. Now, It will allow me to mirror the desktop, but not extend it... any ideas would greatly appreciated... I depend on extended desktop so much.
