Hi everyone,

I was noticing that my songs on iTunes were skipping a bit so I decided to quit the app and reopen it. When I tried reopening iTunes, it said something like "the iTunes library is damaged......a new library has been created, etc." So when it opened again nothing was there, obviously. My iTunes is on my external hard drive (MyPassport, 500GB) so i did the whole option+click to have it go to a new library. I clicked the most recent uncorrupted one and when it opened, all the songs had exclamation points. I tried doing a different library and the same thing happened, so then I tried deleting some things and Finder kept crashing. I'd try relaunching it and the beach ball wouldn't go away.

At this point, none of my files were screwed up; I just couldn't open iTunes. But when I couldn't use Finder, I restarted my computer. When it restarted, my external didn't show up for a bit. It showed up and said that it had been damaged and I had "limited access to the files and I should back the files up immediately." Of course, the two files that I could not access (they show up as zero kb) were iTunes and Pictures, the two most important ones. I have access to a few other folders and files and I'm trying to back them up, but whenever I click a folder or go someplace new on the HD it takes at least 5 minutes to load everything (even though the file is only a few MB for documents).

I do have the majority of my music and pictures backed up on a different external, but a good portion of the stuff seems to be lost on my external.

I'm using the first edition of the Macbook (the one that came out in 2006) and I can't really use it without it freezing a bit so I'm not sure of the specs. The internal is 55gb and the RAM is 2GB.

Also I'm kind of technologically-challenged when it comes to this kind of advanced stuff, so specifying as much as possible would be great...thanks so much in advance !!
