My macbook turned off unexpactantly yesterday and it was very hot. I tried running my processor and used istat pro to detect the processors up to 98 degree Celsius. The fans never turned on, I downloaded smcfancontrol and tried turning up the fans to full speed and still the fan did not turn on. Is my fan broken is there a definitive test I can do?

Run the Apple Hardware Test at startup. Your fan probably died. What is iStat Pro reporting as the fan speed? It should show '0' for a dead fan. In all likelihood, it's a trip to Apple.
