Hi

Here's the story:

I have a 17'' Macbook Pro Hi-Res 7200rpm, 2 months old.
I absolutely love it although one thing seems a bit strange.
Sometimes when it's plugged in it works fine the entire day where fans spin idle at 2000rpm and with intensive work max out at 3000rpm.
But sometimes the fans spin up to 6000rpm even when idle?
I know it's not a heat thing because it happens sometimes when completely cool too.
The fan speed comes right back down when I unplug.

So I'm thinking it could be one of the following:

1 - Temperamental charger?
2 - Faulty electrical source/power surges?

Any other suggestions? I don't want to install fan speed controllers because thats avoiding the issue. It never happens when it is unplugged.

Thanks in advance.

Those fans won't last long at that speed. You can get it fixed now or wait until they die, one at a time. Does it stay at 6000 rpm long when it happens?

Sounds like you can't produce the behavior on demand. Is there an Apple Store nearby?

Yeah they last until I unplug the power supply then they return to 2000rpm.
I took it in yesterday where the tech guy reset the ports and it hasn't happened since..touch wood!
