I know it's been discussed before, but in my search I didn't find any solution;
so, here's my question:

Who else is experiencing, or has experienced their display flickering the brightness?

Have you talked to anyone at an Apple store about it?
How'd your experience go?

I just went in this weekend to the Apple store in SF and the guy at the Genius bar said he knew nothing about it. Looked it up in his "database" and found no other common cases.

Of course, I couldn't get it to duplicate it in front of him as it is completely random - he kept guessing that it was power consumption related so opened up tons of programs to induce the effect.... nothing happened.

Any suggestions for my next visit to the Apple store?
Thanks!

is no one else having a problem with this?

Lots of people are having this issue, including on my girlfriend's macbook. Just check on the apple support forums and you'll find more. I'm not sure if there is a solution yet, but it seems like an inverter problem to me.

I have the same problem, and am having the MacBook sent to Apple for service. Hope they'll fix it.

(I also posted a very similar post here, and no one replied. )

Well good luck to you, and let me know of your success (or failure) of getting this problem fixed...

It sucks being given the "you're full of crap" face from a "genius"
even after i logged into the Apple support forums and showed him countless posts about the same issue, he disregarded it and said that he would have to see it happen to do anything.

I just bought a Macbook last weekend.
Actually two but the other was for a work colleague.

None of them had this problem (first thing I checked).
What I did notice was a minor buzz when the screen was
between the min/max levels (but after some hours this was
gone...well maybe it is still there but I can not notice !:p ).
Other than this they are dead silent and not too
warm at the bottom.

Some people are still waiting for a new revision but there is no
doubt that is worthy to wait for second revs. Staying behind
the current releases has its advantages !

Has anyone heard of updates on this issue? I have a first gen Macbook and this is definitely a hardware issue -- whether I run Tiger, Leopard, or even Ubuntu, this error occurs, and it's quite annoying. It usually doesn't flicker, but it rarely uses the full brightness even when set to. Reformatting and clearing PRAM doesn't work, and turning off monitor dimming as no effect. I heard those who received new power inverters still reported issues.

I love Apple but this is upsetting. Is this just another case of Apple ignoring minor defects in their products?
