I bought a 250gb western digital passport external hard drive, and i thought if i could open it up and put it into my 2.0ghz 2 gb ram 55gb macbook from 2007, can it work without having any problems?

Uh, it depends what type of drive it is. If the external drive contains a Serial ATA notebook drive, then it may work; otherwise, no. If in doubt, don't attempt it. New 250 GB drives for notebooks are relatively inexpensive. ifixit.com is a great place to start.
