Hello,

I have had my MacBook 1.83GHZ Intel for about 2 years now, and it has worked great.. up until now. The other night, I had left it on all day, and the screen had went into power saver mode. Well, when I touched the trackpad, I saw the browser, and the loading wheel there. I couldn't do anything on the mac, so I just manually shut it down. This Morning, I turned on the Mac, and saw the file folder with the question mark icon when it was turned on. Also there was a lot of clicking on the drive, which told me that it was dead. I tried a few key combinations, but it wouldn't never boot from either the Hard Drive, or the Install media. I went ahead and ordered a 3.0 SATA 160 GB drive, and it should be coming soon. I do have a few questions:

First of all, when I tried to load the install disk, it appears that it tries to read it, but it doesn't ever load, and finally ejects. They are the grey CD's (OSX Version 10.4.6 that came with the laptop). I have tried to do C and D and option keys when the mac boots up to get it to boot off the CD, but nothing. Could this mean my DVD Drive is bad? THe drive worked fine when it was last used, and appears to be reading the disk. I have tried loading the disk with and without the HD in, and still nothing.

Also, On the SATA drives, I bought a SATA 3 Laptop drive. Looks like this one has a 1.5 SATA drive. As long as I set the jumper, I shouldn't have any problems, right?

I've built a couple of PC's, and I know my way around them pretty well.. but I don't know much about the Intel Macs.
