Macbook hard drive issue

Help please

2007 Black macbook and got a folder icon with a question mark on the screen, Tried to load from cd but when it gets to the select a destination drive there is no hard drive to select.

Tried a new hard drive thinking ok maybe the hard drive is faulty but same thing happened, no destination to select to install from cd.

Please any advice ?

A new HDD needs to be formatted with Disk Utility while you have booted into the OS X installer.

Why the other disk was not shown I don't know, maybe it got corrupted and had to be formatted too.

I'd reformat the new drive in the correct Mac format and retry.

I take it that you do not have AppleCare?
