My daughters Macbooks hard drive died.

I want to purchase a new hard drive and reinstall mac osx

I have a copy of snow lepord that I upgraded my MBA with not sure if I can use that.

If I cannot what do I need to buy to get the OS installed ? Its an older macbook 2008 so I dont want the latest OS as it will lag.

any help would be appriciated

You should be fine as long as the disc you used to upgrade your MacBook Air looks like the one below. This was the retail disc that was intended to install on any Mac that met Snow Leopard's requirements.

If the disc looks like the one below then you will need to instead find one like the example above. The gray system discs are strictly for the specific make and generation of Mac that they shipped with.

Hope that helps!
