MacBook2,1
Mac OS X - version 10.6.6
2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
(also running Parallels 5.0)

My MacBook has begun to crash. I use my computer daily from 3 to 10 hours a day. I often run a number of programs at one time (Firefox (sometimes with up to 10 tabs open), iCal, AddressBook, Itunes, Paralles VM and in the VM I am running Libronix (a large program), MSWord). This has been my daily habit for 7 years and usually without a problem. But that has changed (I believe) since I installed a new 500GB hardrive in the last 3 months.

Also, one of my fans has begun to make a "grinding" sort of noise. Is there a connection between my fan and the crashing? Is the crashing due to the new HD?

What would you suggest to be the best order of steps to take in order to diagnose this main problem of my computer crashing?

I am not the best at computer diagnostics so, I appreciate any guidance I can get. Thank you!
