I have a MacBook, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I've had it a little over 2 years. This morning, I went to view a slide in Keynote, and my computer just restarted on it's own. Started up and worked just fine, then I shut it down, restarted... and now my HD icon is missing from my desktop. I upgraded to Leopard almost a year ago, did an archive and install about 6 months ago. Is my HD about to go? Good thing I have AppleCare....

Check your Finder Preferences if it's set to show hard drives on the desktop. After that you might want to try View -> Clean Up.

Thanks, I checked the preferences, it has hard disks checked to appear on the desktop. I also did the clean up, and then rechecked.

Now what is a little puzzling. Do other drives mount to the desktop just fine? Like an external hard drive or a USB flash drive? What about your other folders and files on the desktop? Is the Dock still there too?
