MacBook help: display flares

Hi, I have a MacBook I purchased in May and the display just started showing dark flares (about 12) across the bottom when my Mac is booting up (while the little wheel is turning in the light blue field). The flares are a darker color and start as a point at the very bottom and extend up and out to the sides about 1/2 inch before grading off into the dominant, light color.

I have Applecare and they said I have to send it out to be fixed. Although it's under warranty, I have to have daily access for school. Plus, service of any kind where I live is problematic...

Has anyone ever seen this problem before? Thanks, in advance, for any light you can shed...

Thanks, ibuyufo for replying. I'm not sure if it's that but since I'm not using the cable right now, it has disappeared. I'm a little miffed at applecare for scaring me and will be contacting them again (they are usually great, though). Maybe it was just a kink in the battery cable?
