So my sister purchased the lowest end MacBook on 7/31/07. She just fried the motherboard by spilling water on it so now I'm trying to sell it for what its worth. Can anyone tell me the specs of the laptop? I need to know the speed, optical drive, ram and hard drive. Any help would be appreciated and one more question I have is how much is a good price for this? Thank you MacRumors community. :)

we had apple care but they wouldnt cover it. The cost is 778 to fix the motherboard by Apple. I was thinking of selling this, getting a new macbook and then selling the itouch. which plan is better?

The specs will be under the battery on a grey label along with the serial number. They will also be on the side of the original MacBook box (if she still has it). Depending on specs could be worth $300-350.

I would look up the price on http://mac2sell.com and then subtract the price of the repair and you will be pretty close.

You can't really know that unless you know she bought the standard configuration. There are multiples.

At that time it was:
2.0 and 2.16 GHz
Either a Combo Drive or a SuperDrive, just like now
I think that it was 512MB low end and 1GB mid at that time
80, 120, 160, or 200GB HDD

Just put in MacBook Core 2 Duo/2GHz/512MB/80GB/Combo and Mac2sell.com says $730.

Subtracting the cost of the repair ($778) certainly gives a realistic price - you have to pay someone $48 to take it away ?

haha

Yeah i was thinking that too. Someone said motherboard cost $700 to replace/repair. But they want to sell it for $750. Dont know much more that. the whole situation sounds weird.

ok i found the box and the specs are:
2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
1GB (two 512MB SO-DIMMs) of DDR2 SDRAM; supports up to 2GB
120GB 5400-rpm hard drive
13.3-inch (diagonal) TFT widescreen display; 1280 by 800 pixels
Slot-loading 8x Superdrive.

How much do you think I can sell this for?

ok so that is the mid-range model (not the base) so will be worth a bit more - even if water-damaged. Mac2sell quotes $910 for that model (working). As is then around $350 maybe a bit more.
