Hey, i was wondering if its possible to replace the old macbooks graphics card with the new, the Geforce 9400 M processor, and whether it will be a good investment.

thanks

Maybe if you can order the logic board as a whole...but no, that would not be a good investment.

Like others said, no easy way but to swap the entire logic board (and even then there could be some compatibility issues between the new 9400m logic board + older white case). Probably a better idea to just sell your old macbook on eBay/Craigslist, and buy a new white macbook with the 9400m graphics.

I think his sig has a Black Macbook and he'd like the nvidia GPU in the black case.

Cheers,

Hmmm well if you REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted the new graphics card in the black case there's a very roundabout way of doing it:

1. Sell old BlackBook
2. Buy new WhiteBook
3. Dye the WhiteBook black

Hey presto! :p

It is of course a completely crazy and expensive plan but if you really want it then its an option.

Colourware would also be an option if you wanted to buy a pre-dyed one.

Another option...

1) Buy new Whitebook
2) Swap internals between units
3) Sell old blackbook setup in new whitebook case as a used x3100 whitebook

:apple:Either way whether you go with a new one or not, the 9400m is not a whole lot better than the x3100 they are both shared memory based cards. Nothing dedicated going on there, just a slightly better chipset for marginal performance. Just my 2 cents.:apple:

I'd say the 9400 is much better than the x3100. Company of heroes and titans quest were unplayable on the x3100 but my mini and new MacBook play quite well with med-high settings using dx9 under vista.

Cheers,

Like Panzer said, the 9400m benchmarks considerably better than the x3100, like blows-it-away levels in some situations.

It's a significant upgrade I'd say, integrated or not.
