MacBook is freaking out

One of my friends was at work today when his mom called about his MacBook

she heard almost whistling from my room when she walked by
it was my macbook... the fans were maxed.. and she said the screen was flashing (back and forth between my normal desktop and grey really fast.)
I walked her through ejecting the external hard drive... (the flashing stopped after she hit a button)
and told her to close the lid....
