macbook is not connecting to internet

The macbook i bought was working fine then poof, it stopped connecting to the internet. it was also doing that hold restart button error thing for awhile ,but it stopped. the toolbar up top also looks weird, here is a pic,

That logo means the airport is turned off.

Click it and select "Turn Airport On"

i know what to do,
when i do that it says that it is not configured.
i went to go make a new location and when i made one it was deleted when i exited out of the network menu. also when i try to scan for a network under the network setup thing it says its off and i turn it on and its shows no networks and then freezes.
