I've had my MB for almost a year and I started having a problem with the "equal" key. I press the key and I get nothing and the Mac makes the sound it makes when you press a wrong key (a little blonk type sound). When I press the shift/equal key I DO get the plus sign. Thinking it might be the actual keyboard itself thats causing the problem I plugged my MB into my KVM switch and used a standard windows keyboard and....I get the exact same results.

Any ideas???

You say it works when you you use shift key... First thought would be is the "=" assigned to something in the keyboard preferences? either by someone or software?

Have you recently installed anything such as remapping software that could be traced to the problem? Did it start happening after you installed something?

No, I had not installed anything recently. I sent into System Preferences and I reset the keyboard shortcuts just in case but that did help. If another application was remapping it would it have to be running for the remapping to take affect? Also, would resetting the shortcuts have an affect on it?

AHHHH! My problem is fixed. My daughter reassigned the equal key to active the text to speech feature. She figured, Hey....who ever uses the equal key anyway?

I guess it might be time to get her her own MB :( or ..... make her use my windows laptop.
