Hello All,

I've had a unibody aluminum MacBook since December 2008, and I'm noticing some problems with it, and hoped I could get a diagnosis here.

Heat problems:
  • Processor idles at 160° F
  • Processor easily gets to 200°+ when using iTunes and Safari (Highest ever was 217° while syncing a new iPod
  • Heatsinks have reached 150-160°
  • A quick check of Activity Monitor shows the highest process (in 'All Processes') as Safari, with 24.1% CPU usage
  • Fans idle between 5400 and 6900 RPM, ocasionally dipping to 4100 in very low use situations
  • Fans continue to run for up to five minutes after closing the case
  • Windows XP SP3 causes the computer to overheat and possibly shut down a core (evidenced by a sudden performance drop)

Other issues:
  • Clicking text boxes in Safari often does nothing and requires multiple clicks or keystrokes afterwards to register
  • Original battery lasts 1.5-2 hours
  • Tabs randomly tear in Safari and open new windows
  • AirPort Utility and my WiFi card ocassionally drop all traces of my AirPort Extreme

So, what do you think?
