I don't foresee Apple adding a LED screen to MacBooks, it would greatly decrease the distinction between MacBook and MacBook Pros. They need a certain difference between the models. It's not great for us, but from a business model it makes perfect sense.

The LED Backlit is no doubt mercury free but however should keep in mind,
the power consumption is not much different from current LCD and in fact your screen will be hotter when you turn it on.

mercury is danger for health but really how many of computer users will poke a hole on our screen and let it mercury expose?

Screens break and shatter all the time for a number of reasons......

i got a SR 2.2 MBP and it has LCD..
does all the penryn MBP have LED now?
when did they start adding the LEDs?:)

Your screen is LCD, your backlighting is LED. The backlights went LED on the 15" MBPs with Santa Rosa (2.2-2.4GHz).
