Macbook Lid Makes Cracking Noise

Hi,

I was wondering could anyone tell me if its normal for the lid to be making a plastic cracking noise when closing and opening it? Its like a clicking noise as if it catching on something as its being opened. I didnt notice it at when i first got the unit, but now it seems to be getting progressively worst.

Also was wondering, does anyone else find the case flimsy around the ports on the left handside? I can push the plastic in and out with my pinky.

Any help will be much appreciated. I'm sorry if this has been posted else where, but i did spend sometime searching for a similar post.

Can you record it? Is it the little swup-puff sound that comes when the magnetic latch closes. If it's a plastic-cracking noise as you describe it, it might be because you have a loose casing somewhere...

I went to an Apple Store over the weekend to look at MacBooks and one of their demonstrators lids made a creaking noise when opening and closing it.

I would return it.

I'm pretty sure its not the magnets in the front and that the noise is definately coming from the back. I think its the lid catching on the bottom corners of the case.

I'm going to take it in tomorrow. Thanks everyone for the quick replies and reassurance.

Unfornately I cannot record the sound as the MacBook goes to sleep when I close the lid. Its a very sharp sound, as if you were breaking the lid of a tub of butter if that makes sense.

Mine's began doing this too, from the right hand side of the hinge as you look at the screen.

I'm not hugely concerned, and doubt I'll be replacing it, but would like to find out how to stop it from making the noise.

It sounds like an old creaky door on mine, alike those in haunted houses

I have the same crack

I noticed the same cracking very soon after I got my macbook and it's getting only worse... I tried with WD40 but it didn't work
I'm taking it to the shop tomorrow...

This also happens with the 13.3' Macbook Aluminium. I bought it in for a service and returned without the squeek
