macbook lost trackpad options in sys prefs?

Hi folks,

Posting on behalf of my buddy who travels alot.

His Macbook has Leopard 10.5.8.

He can't seem to use 2 fingers to swipe like he did before while browsing. He's not sure why.

In Sys Prefs under trackpad, the options for 2 fingers don't even have checkmark options.

I've attached a screenshot.

Any advice would help. He's thinking of upgrading to Lion or SL once he has the chance.
