One of the reason I'm buying macbook is that its been rated as very silent at least with normal programs like internet and typing program. What do you think of that? Are you able to concentrate on reading while you macbook is on right next to you?

The noisiest part of my Macbook is the optical drive, but that's to be exspected. Otherwise mine is really quiet. I can only hear the fan when there is zero ambient noise, which is rarely in my place.

Depends on environment. I have a fishtank next to my computer and it's way louder than anything my computer could put out so I can afford a slightly noisy book.

sometimes my fan turns on, but other than the optical drive its ok.
quieter than my brothers hp. so im happy :D

get the black one. the black helps to contain the noise because of the color and you pay for that. its apples sound locking technology.

Mine used to be silent but now it makes a little noise. When you are doing intensive stuff the fan ramps up and gets quite loud. I have never owned another laptop but its much quieter than my desktop PC and a few ppl have commented that it is very quiet compared to their PC laptops.

Can you sleep in the same room, lets say its downloading and in practice at zero load, will the sound go low enough to not disturb your sleeping. I have quite small room:D
