Hey all. Like many others, I have been closely following the issue of the heat of the Macbooks and Macbook Pros.

I think I might have a possible solution, but I want to get the opinion of some people who know more about hardware than me.

It has been posted in other threads, but a few days ago over at MacDevCenter there was an article posted where a guy took apart his MBP and applied AS5 thermal paste, and found that he only had a 2 degree drop in temperature. However, he also found that when the fans are tricked into running full strength, the system stays very cool (but also is kinda noisy).

The article is at:

What I want to know is, how difficult would it be to write an application that would allow the user to set the temperature below which the fan stays off, the temperature at which the fan starts, and the temperature above which the fan goes full speed?

I know that this is possible on some motherboards. I own a DFI Lanparty motherboard that provides a program that I can use to configure all of these settings. It's great! When I am going to be playing CPU/Video intensive games with headphones on, I lower the temperature levels and the fan gets loud (but keeps the system cool). Most of the time I leave the levels high, and the system stays really quiet.

Anyway, just thought I would throw it out there to see what people thought. :)
