My daughter has a MacBook 2.1 MHz w/1 GB of ram. We will be upgrading her hard drive and she'd like to juice up her memory a bit while we are in there. Do we need to replace both RAM SIMMS, or can we just put in a 1 or 2 MB SIMM in one slot and leave the existing 512 MB in the other slot?

If you have a 2.1GHz processor, and not a 2.16GHz, your MacBook can take up to 6GB of RAM. Generally, you're better off using matching pairs of RAM sticks, but it's not a requirement.
