I was recently given a new mid-2007 model macbook by a friend(it had a broken hinge), and was really enjoying it. It only had 512 mb of RAM in it, so I decided to upgrade, and went ahead and bought a 2gb stick of Kingston memory, compatible with my MacBook. After installing it, it worked great - for a few days. After that, I tried to boot it one day, and the screen flashed once, I could hear the drive boot up, and the status light remained on. However, after the flash, the screen stayed black.
Assuming it was related to my recent install, I removed the upgraded RAM, and re-installed the stock 512 mb memory. After this was done, the computer booted up fine, and I assumed the culprit was none other than a faulty seating or just faulty RAM. I repeatedly used it, and the computer would fail up to boot sometimes - the problem was intermittent, further strengthening my hypothesis. I called up MacMall(from whom I bought the RAM), and ordered a return.
Today, I've received my replacement memory, all while dealing with this intermittent problem. I installed the new memory, and now the computer will not boot up at all - with any of the RAM sticks. I haven't been able to boot it up for hours, trying on and off. Now, I fear that the logic board is fried...
Any suggestions to fix this problem/ideas of what it is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
