I'm scared guys...lol

My disc drive seems to have disappeared!

The slot drive will not accept any discs.
No drive shows up in the Disk Utility.
No drive shows up in "about this mac -> more info".

I am running 10.5.4 on a 1.83ghz Core Duo macbook.

Any suggestions?

PS..umm..is it also normal for the green light to be on next to the built in camera while on the login screen? I don't like being watched. :S

*bump and update*

green light has turned off. read some other threads about that problem. Unplugging my macbook and removing the battery + waiting a few minutes solved that problem.

Still can not insert any discs though. Nothing is in the drive, and yet it will not pull any new discs (cds nor DVDs) into the drive.

Hardware test is out, since I need to have the install disc inserted for it to work.
And googling for anything related to macbook and optical drive automatically brings up tons of pages about the macbook airs lack of a built in optical drive.

another update:

On startup, i see a white screen (like normal..just WITHOUT the apple logo and loading circle), for about a minute. THEN the apple and loading circle appear.

Using boot-up commands, such as resetting PRAM and such...do not work, and I eventually just end up at the login screen.
