I'm currently attempting to charge my 2006 MacBook and am having no luck. The charger is functional (I've tried it on my brother's computer and tried his functional charger on mine) but no light turns on and the computer doesn't recognize that it's attached. coconutBattery only reaffirms that a charger is "not attached" and the battery is not charging. Any ideas? As in most cases, I'd prefer not to take it to the shop if at all possible.

Thanks!

That sounds like what happened when my battery died. I called Apple Care, and then went into a shop to replace my battery.

Hope it all works out for you.

The SMC reset worked, but the problem is reoccurring; it's functional, but I would prefer to not have to shut down, flip over my computer, and deal with the reset several times per day. Is a new battery the only option?

In the interest of full disclosure, I did replace the motherboard a few months ago while I was in Italy with that of a different model... that said, everything but this battery problem works perfectly.
