I have a macbook bought early 08 that just stopped charging. I've tried two chargers and neither work. This happened once before but reseting the smc worked, now neither reseting the smc or reseting the pram worked.

But shouldn't batteries decay over time? Not die suddenly? I check my battery status a week ago and it still had 95 % capacity left? The battery was half full when it stopped charging.

Yes, they should. The fact that yours suddenly shows no capacity, even after you reset SMC, the fact that it shows "Check Battery", and the fact that you verified the chargers are working properly, are reasons why I recommend you let a Genius check it out to see if it's defective.

Since I live in Finland with no apple store, I today gave it to one of Apples authorized service centers in Helsinki. They told me they would fix the top case for free per apples agreement with them and they would check if the battery is dead or if it's the magsafe DC board. Should know in a few days.
