I have a macbook core duo white. It is not detecting or charging it's battery. It shows a little X In the battery icon but i know the battery is fine because i can unplug my charger. I however cannot boot without a charger in my macbook

Unfortunately some of the earlier MacBook's suffer from battery problems where they are no longer detected, even if they still have plenty of charge or just enough to keep it running. From what I've read the only solution to this is to replace the logic board, but don't quote me on that. Hopefully you don't have that problem.

this sounds like a logic board problem. try an SMC reset. Maybe that will fix the problem

I have tried SMC and pram is there any point in taking this to apple
PRAM/NVRAM has nothing to do with power, charging or batteries, so that can't help. It sounds like your battery is toast. Did you buy it from Apple, or is it another brand? If you got it from Apple and it's defective, take it to them and see if they'll replace it. If it's a non-Apple battery.... good luck!

This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:

Is it the main logic board or the MagSafe control unit
Yes it is an apple battery
There's no way to tell for certain. You can try your MagSafe adapter with another Mac to see if it works, or use someone else's adapter on yours, to see if the same problem arises. That would eliminate the adapter possibility. Your best bet is take it to Apple.

Typical

I take it to apple and it works then when i get back its a no i have tried it at multiple houses so the wiring is not it. I aslo have when i insert the battery it charges and is recognized for about 30 seconds then i get the same issue
