Macbook not detecting my external seagate hard drive (640mb)

So I have a 2007 black macbook. I have been using the external hd since 2009. Today, I had it plugged in and my macbook froze so I had to hold down the power button to restart. I was still transferring files. Now that it's restarted, it won't detect my seagate hd. The light on the hd lights up though. Anyone know how I can fix this?

edit: it's a Western Digital hard drive 640gb

warranty is up

edit 2: problem has been resolved. don't know how, but it reads, so I just safely ejected it.
