I have the latest 2013 MacBook Pro Retina all up to date and it won't recognise my Samsung External drive anymore. I put a disc in and it's all wired up with a USB and it's not recognising it. Any ideas on how I could fix this issue?

  • Tried all two USB ports?
  • Tried a different USB cable?
  • Is it using an external power supply?
  • Have you tested the drive on another computer?
  • When connected and a disc is inside, what does Disk Utility have to say?
  • Does it show up in System Information > Hardware > Disc Burning or USB?

Yep. I tried it on another computer and it works but it wouldn't work on my Mac. It has been working before.

Try another DVD unit. If that works, the Samsung is probably u/s. If you've tried different cables and ports, that about narrows it down to the Mac or the DVD drive....I hope it's not the Mac:)
I only have that DVD unit.

Does it use an external power supply ?

If not, do a SMC reset on the Mac (the USB power delivery is under control of the SMC).
