Hi so I replaced the battery in a 2012 macbook pro unibody model. The replacement battery is a Skower brand, 7200mAh. There has been some unusual behaviour relating to power, but the main issue is that if I close the lid to put it to sleep it quite often shuts down (while using battery, not plugged in to AC). I have tried resetting the SMC, by holding down the ctrl option shift etc. Is there any way to investigate the SMC properly ie with Terminal commands? Or is this something to do with the new battery? Is it poor quality.

I'm also having the same problem with my mid 2009 macbook pro. I replaced the battery last summer and it seems like the problem started after that. Mine has also randomly shut down a couple of times and frequently shuts down during startup.

Thanks for the tip regarding the System Log. I had a quick search around for any clues as to why it shut down last night, couldn't see any, but I'll keep looking.

I next tried another SMC reset, this time with the power cable plugged to AC. I read somewhere that the magsafe light should flicker during the reset, but this didn't happen. Is there any way to verify that a SMC reset has indeed occurred? Obviously it doesn't appear in the system log as the machine is not turned on.

Thanks but no that's not it.

I was able to swap the battery into a similar macbook and compare the difference. So far it looks like this is a case of bad battery. I suggest caution with the Skower brand.

Just for clarity, are you saying the exact thing happened when you put that battery in a different MPB?

No, but the problems have stopped in this one. My daughter is using the other MBP she did say it randomly went to sleep but yeah not really a scientific study going on.
