Hi all,

I recently bought a 2nd hand mac book. (from 2006 i believe)

It had a failed hard drive, so i've installed a brand new one.

What operating system do I need to put on it? I have lion on a USB but it wont reocnise it when I turn the book on.

Thanks,

Is there 2 versions by any chance? I downloaded SL then mounted it on a USB on my laptop but the mac wont reconise it.

it will reconise lion but i dont have the 2gb RAM it requires

You would need the retail version of SL, not one for a specific machine. If it still doesn't work then it would be Leopard.

SL is not available as a download. Call Apple to order a retail SL install disc for about $20. Don't be foolish enough to pirate software, as you could end up with malware or having your system compromised.

thanks for that,

I've just put ubuntu on the mac. Will I be ok putting snow leopard over that when I get the disc?

OP get yourself an official replacement disc or retail Snow Leopard disc from Apple and then start a new thread please.
