So, these are the facts: My parents currently have a desktop pc that will likely crash within a month or two. It needs to be replaced. My parents are really impressed by Apple computers (they've experience with iPhones, iPads and have seen my macbook pro), so they're asking me what to buy.

My parents are really low end users, they won't do much beyond word processing, internet browsing, listening to music using iTunes and watching the occasional DVD. So the choice would really fall for a low end mac, I'd say. However, because you can get a macbook for just 200 more and we already have an external monitor, I am doubting a bit. Wouldn't it be better for them to buy a macbook and hook it up the monitor and use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard instead? That way they can also use the computer in bed and on other places. (There is a way to use the macbook with external monitor, while closing the lid closed? Right?)

Parents like simplicity. mini all the way.

Sounds like you already have portability with an iPad
