Hi,

I'm trying to decide between a Macbook White Unibody, upgraded to 4GB of RAM or a Sony VAIO NW.

The Macbook (upgraded to 4GB RAM) is $1439 Australian Dollars.
The VAIO is $1399 Australian Dollars.

I assume most people know the Macbook Specs, so here are the VAIO ones:

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T6600 (2.20 GHz)
4GB DDR3 RAM
320 GB HDD
HDMI
ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4570 Graphics
Windows 7 Home Premium

Which do you think?
The Sony is more powerful, especially the video card..

MacBook!

Lets put it this way, if you get the Macbook, you get the best of both worlds, Mac OS X and Windows. But with the Sony, its Windows only. From my experience, Mac OS X handles Ram and Display more efficiently than Windows and I am sure you could get ram cheaper for you Macbook from other suppliers.

If you want to game or really need a larger screen then the Vaio - it has a far superior graphics card and a 15.5" screen (although only marginally better resolution - lower dpi than the MacBook).

If you want longer battery life, OS X instead of Windows 7, a superior display with an LED backlight, potentially higher resale value and what many would consider better aesthetics then go for the MacBook.

Mind you, we're going to be pretty biased on here - but then you know that so maybe your mind is already made up and you just need some reassurance!! :p;)
