Thinking about a new MacBook Pro 13” with 16gb ram. Would it be a good idea to buy the $1699 model with 10th gen or just the 8th gen 1.4 cpu. I plan to keep it for at least 4-5 years or possibly longer.

Since the 8th gen is already “older” would the 10th gen be worth the extra money when it comes to longevity of the MacBook ?

depend on your task and activity.
as developer, gen 4th still work fine for me until now.
maybe i will upgraded for 10th gen, to keep as long as i can, but still wait for 14" rumor, maybe will release on 2021 early (perhaps)

just make sure, keep the highest ram you can afford, like 16 or 32.
