From my Sofa with the wifi router upstairs the results from speedtest.net are:

iPad 3 - 27.19Mbps

iPhone 5 - 40.20Mbps

Macbook Pro 10,1 - 1.56Mbps

Macbook Pro 10,1 (upstairs sat next to the router) 27.45Mbps

so whats up here, why is my macbook pro so crap compared to my other devices. is there anything i can do to improve this? Even in the same room as the router i don't get close to the available bandwidth of 50Mbps!!

anyone else having rubbish wifi performance with their's?

any advice would be greatly received

My first thought is to try reseating the airport antennas (there's three connected to the airport card) along with reseating the card, too.
There's a good guide for getting to the card from iFixit
