Edit: miss typed title mean to say a1278, but cant seem to edit that for some reason.

I have a 2011 2.3 i5 macbook pro that died a years ago from a bad logic board. I was about to toss it out and decided why not just buy another motherboard for it but when i started looking the prices i noticed them to be very high for a basic board. Then i saw the 2.7 I7 model and I've read online that people have upgraded from 2.3 to 2.7 very easily; however, that board is the same price as a 2012 model (non retina) I7 2.9 board with usb 3.0 which is not only faster but has usb 3.0.

Has anyone tried to swap a 2012 board into a 2011?

Looking at the boards themselves they look identical except for a heat sync which can easily be purchased along side of the 2012 board.

2012 Ifixit Logic board

The boards really look pretty identical when comparing both tare downs outside of the heat syncs. I was wondering if anyone out there gave this a try and whether or not it worked?

Both computers are listed as the same body style too
